The Task in hand!

Work on the overhaul of Austerity No9 started in June 2019. The blog was started in June 2021 so photos and text will be added as the work progressed through that period. Because of the Covid pandemic work was interupted during that time but the intention is to restore Austerity No9 to working condition as an N.C.B locomotive in blue. Work continues.............

Work on the bunker and footplate in August 2020

During August the bunker was removed  for full examination and to allow the cab floor plates, which we knew were badly corroded, to be replaced. A raised platform had also to be removed to uncover the top of the RH sandbox, which had been also been removed at some point. A new sandbox will be made as the original is missing!

RH side of footplate steps. This needed to be removed to access bolts to release steps.

RH side of footplate with cover removed. Hole for sandbox revealed.
